Disaster Recovery Program Chart

NOTICE: MAXIMUM AID DOLLAR AMOUNTS SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE
CHECK WITH FEMA OR SBA BEFORE MAKING ANY MEANINGFUL DECISION BASED ON THE INFORMATION IN THE CHARTS BELOW

A federal disaster declaration opens the door to
these state and federal relief programs:

Agency Program Need Addressed Comments
Red Cross Disaster Aid Emergency needs - food, clothing, shelter The Red Cross works
FEMA Public Assistance infrastructure, building damage, debris removal, emergency health and human services For local government and special districts, also religious and non-profit organizations. 

The PA Program is addressed in: Disaster Cost Recovery Guidelines.*

Disaster Housing Assistance (See 3 program divisions below). Also called Individual Assistance.
a) Home Repair Assistance Repairs to primary residence. For owner/occupants only.
b) Temporary Housing Assistance Temporary tents, trailers, and/or emergency rental expenses. Homeowners - up to 18 months while repairs are being made. 

Renters - when landlord can or will not make necessary repairs, can provide money for another rental. 

c) Disaster Mortgage and Rental Assistance Threat of eviction / foreclosure due to disaster-related loss of income. Homeowners or renters - up to 18 months mortgage or rent payments. 

Note: the maximum FEMA grant for all 3 DHA programs combined is $10,000

Dept. of Social Services (state) Individual and Family Grant Program (IFGP) Personal property losses, also medical, dental, funeral, transportation, or other expense, also excess home repair costs over FEMA's $10,000 maximum. A safety net program for applicants who do not qualify for an SBA loan. 

The maximum IFGP grant is $13,400 (as of 3/98). 

Note: if you receive an SBA Disaster Loan application you must fill it out and return it promptly in order to remain eligible for the IFG Program.

SBA Home Disaster Loans Repairs to primary residence. Homeowners - to $200K (3/98).
Personal Property Disaster Loans Personal property losses. Homeowners and renters - to $40K (3/98).
Business Disaster Loans Damaged facilities, equipment, or inventory. Businesses (of any size) - to $1,500K (3/98).
Economic Injury Loans Disaster-related loss of income. Small businesses - to $1,500K (3/98).
