BIO: Son of French-Canadian immigrants, Jean Louis Kerouac was born March 12, 1922 in Massachusetts, USA. The World War II years saw him serving with the U.S.Merchant.Marine and attending Columbia.University, where he met Allen.Ginsberg and William Burroughs. In 1945 Jack found his muse and idol when he hooked up with Denver wildman, Neil Cassady. In 1948 Jack coined the term, "beat generation" - alluding to the Beatitudes and the holy teaching that the poor and downtrodden are favored by God. The 50's and early 60's were for Jack a blur of cross-country travel, drug and alcohol abuse, sex, jazz, and through it all, a continuous outpouring of genius onto the printed page. Best friend Cassady died in 1968, and alcoholism put an end to the journeys of Jack Kerouac a year later. For more information about the "father of beat" try these pages from:
